Description
A vintage 1960's dress ring set with a 5 carat colour change sapphire. Colour change sapphires are also known as alexandrite sapphire. The colour on this example goes from a steel or teal blue to an amethyst purple depending on the lighting conditions. In mixed lighting it can show both colours at the same time which is quite an exciting effect. The sapphire is lab grown and has all the same properties as a natural sapphire and indeed tests as a sapphire but comes without the environmental and ethical concerns of mined stones.
The stone is set high on a by pass mount and has custome made prongs which match the design. The gold is quite rich and although not a rose gold certainly does have some tone to it. Inside the band it is marked for 14K for 14 carat gold and tests as such.
