Description

The brooch depicts a stylised june bug with wings worked in plique-à-jour enamel - a technique in which translucent enamel is suspended within a metal framework without a metal backing, allowing light to pass through in the manner of stained glass. The body and detailing are set with crystal gems and enamel work. To the reverse, a safety roll-over catch and the Joan Rivers signature mark. It retains its original black Joan Rivers presentation box.

Joan Rivers launched her jewellery line in 1990 on QVC, becoming one of the channel's most successful sellers and building a devoted collector following. Her pieces are characterised by bold, theatrical design - drawing on her love of the grand couture jewels worn by Hollywood's golden age stars and translating that aesthetic into accessible costume pieces.
