Summary

A vintage Karl Ens porcelain grey heron with a long curved neck, finely modelled feathers and naturalistic colouring beneath a high gloss glaze.

Description

The heron stands on a stylised naturalistic base, its long neck curved downwards and its pale yellow beak pointing towards the breast. Modelled feather detail runs across the wings, breast and back, picked out in soft grey, white, green and blue tones. The legs are delicately painted, and a high gloss glaze covers the figure.

Made by Karl Ens at Volkstedt in Germany, the figure carries the printed blue Ens windmill factory mark to the underside. This form of mark is associated with the post war period, and the figure is dated to circa the 1950s to 1960s.

Condition

Fine vintage condition. No chips, cracks or restoration noted.
