Summary

A vintage Mexican sterling silver necklace of panel link form, each link decorated with an elongated Greek key cut out design. Good gauge silver with a sturdy, well made feel, dating to the 1970s or 1980s. Marked 925 for sterling silver.

Description

The necklace is constructed from individually hinged rectangular panels, each worked with a Greek key pattern cut out. The links are graduated and set to follow the neckline, giving the piece a clean, flat drape. The Greek key - a continuous geometric meander - was a popular design in Mexican silver of this period, where it suited the architectural aesthetic favoured by many of the Taxco workshops producing export silver from the 1960s onwards.

The clasp is a box slide with safety catch. The marks are not entirely clear but include a maker's logo, what appears to read V.4, and 925 confirming sterling silver content.

Condition

Very good for the period with light signs of use. No damage or repairs noted.
