Summary

A vintage Ola Gorie sterling silver triskelion necklet, hallmarked Edinburgh 1996, with an openwork centre section integrated directly into a double rolo chain. Adjustable from approximately 38cm to 47.5cm and finished with a small triskelion charm to the extension chain.

Description

A vintage sterling silver necklet by Scottish jewellery designer Ola Gorie, hallmarked at Edinburgh in 1996.

The central section carries an openwork triskelion design, with three flowing scroll forms arranged within a rounded triangular frame. The smooth polished surfaces and curved geometry are characteristic of Gorie's modern interpretation of Celtic and Norse inspired forms.

Rather than being suspended as a conventional pendant, the centre is integrated directly into the necklace, joined to a double rolo chain on each side. The necklace is adjustable, with the double chain continuing into a single extension section allowing the worn length to vary from approximately 38cm to 47.5cm. At the end of the extension chain is a small triskelion charm marked OMG St Sil.

The underside of the main centre is hallmarked Edinburgh 1996 and carries the OMG sponsor's mark for Ola Gorie. It fastens with a lobster clasp.

Ola Gorie founded her jewellery business in Orkney in 1960 after studying jewellery design at Gray's School of Art. Her work became particularly associated with modern interpretations of Celtic, Norse and Orcadian archaeological forms, and the business grew steadily through the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s into one of Scotland's best known small jewellery makers.

Condition

Very good vintage condition with light age related surface wear. The chains articulate freely, the lobster clasp functions correctly, and the extension chain and triskelion terminal charm are present and intact.
