Description

A pair of vintage sterling silver candlesticks made by W I Broadway & Co.

The candlesticks have a classical form with broad circular bases, tapering stems and cup shaped nozzles. Beaded borders are used around the bases, lower stem sections and rims of the nozzles, giving the pair a traditional appearance.

One candlestick is hallmarked Birmingham 1984 and the other Birmingham 1985, both with the maker's mark for W I Broadway & Co. It is not unusual to find matched silver pairs hallmarked in consecutive years, particularly where pieces were retailed as pairs from ongoing production.

The bases are weighted and filled, with green felt applied underneath. The candle sockets measure approximately 1.8 cm internally.

Condition

Good vintage condition overall with light surface wear.

One candlestick has a small dent around the lower edge of the base, visible in the close up image. There is also a small pin head sized indent around one nozzle band.

Both stand correctly and remain fully usable.
