Description

A sterling silver bangle made by Bracelon (Birmingham) Ltd and hallmarked for Birmingham 1977, with the sovereign's head profile of Queen Elizabeth II marking the Silver Jubilee year. The front of the bangle is decorated with an oversized sequence of hallmark motifs - the sponsor's mark BLtd, date letter, lion passant, Birmingham anchor and sovereign's head profile - used as the primary surface decoration rather than simply as functional assay marks, giving the piece a recognisably period character.

The silver surface has a fine vertical linear texture, with areas of horizontal working that create a subtle moiré effect as the light moves across the metal. To the reverse, bright cut fern leaf decoration adds contrast to the more formal hallmark imagery on the front.

The bangle fastens using a hinged spigot and socket system covered by UK patent number GB1167637, filed in 1967 by Bracelon (Birmingham) Ltd. The fastening operates by flexing the bangle slightly to release the hooked spigot from its socket, allowing the bangle to open while keeping the exterior relatively uninterrupted when closed. The sponsor's mark BLtd identifies the maker as Bracelon (Birmingham) Ltd.

Condition

Good vintage condition with light period surface wear. The engraving and decorative hallmark motifs remain clear throughout, and the patented hinge and fastening system are working correctly.
