Description

The finely carved shell cameo depicts a young maiden in the classical style, her hair set in ringlets - a timeless subject executed with the delicacy and precision that characterises fine British cameo work of the late 20th century. The cameo is set in a 9ct gold openwork mount that frames the portrait to excellent effect, with a standard pin fastening, safety chain, and a suspension loop to the rear allowing the piece to be worn as a pendant - the safety chain removes easily via a spring catch.

EJ Clewley & Co were established jewellers based on Vyse Street in Birmingham's historic Jewellery Quarter. The piece is fully hallmarked for 9ct gold with a Birmingham assay mark dated 1984, and carries the maker's mark to the reverse - a well documented and collectable maker.
