Antique Burmese Carved Wooden Table Box with Kinnara, Elephants & Peacocks (Code 2660)
A lovely Burmese carved wooden box. It dates to the early 20th century, inter war period, and has a German made lock. The top is deeply carved with a Kinnara perhaps fighting or subduing another figure. There are also carved peacocks around the body and scrolling leaves along with Chinthe and elephants. The feet are also carved as leaves. Burmese carved wooden boxes are scarce and we see very few of them over the years.
Generally very good for period. Some small losses to the carvings but nothing significant. Some losses to the tips of the feet, not very noticeable due to the design. Lock throws but does not engage the catch, and one catch is missing to the lock plate.
