A custom commissioned Royal Worcester teacup trio from 1895, hand painted and gilded with the armorial crest of the Scottish Walker family, retailed through Phillips of Oxford Street.

Description

The decoration is unusually detailed for a domestic commission: roses, butterflies and a dragonfly fill the painted panels, alongside the Walker family crest and its Latin motto 'Cura et Industria' (care and industry). The initials HOW appear in a painted reserve. To the underside, the Worcester date mark confirms 1895, placing them in the late Victorian period. The retailers stamp for Phillips of Oxford Street - a high-end London retailer of the era - suggests this was a significant commission, almost certainly unique to the Walker family. Pieces of this specificity rarely surface outside of family collections.

Condition

Tea plate and saucer in very good condition with period crazing and very little wear. The teacup has a hairline running from the rim to approximately halfway down the body, and a further hairline running around the inside base of the cup, also slightly visible around the foot rim to the exterior. These are reflected in the price.
