Description
A lovely Victorian period small brooch. It is in 18ct light rose gold with an oval mixed cut glass gem. The outer band is a plait of woven hair. Due to the design and style this is probably a sweetheart piece rather than a mourning brooch. The gem has a rich olive tone due to the gold backing. Some of the parts such as the hinge and pin appear to be a material other than gold. There is a small loop at the hinge end which could be used to attach a safety chain. We have not found any marks at all and it would date somewhere between 1860 and 1880.

Condition: Minor wear. The hair very good considering the period with some fraying at the hinge terminal. Pin with some rippling but hinge and catch working fine. Images show the item much larger than life size so you can get a good look at the overall condition.
