Summary

A fine and rare antique Ancient Order of Foresters (AOF) Past Chief Ranger jewel in sterling silver, Birmingham hallmarked 1912, by the celebrated maker George Tutill. Unusually unengraved to the reverse, with original tricolour ribbon and period Toye & Co presentation box - an exceptional example for the serious fraternal collector.

Description

The jewel is a beautifully made example of Edwardian fraternal silversmithing. The top bar features the stag's head with horn and the AOF arms shield, suspending the jewel on its original tricolour ribbon in green, red, and gold. The piece carries a Birmingham hallmark for 1912 and the maker's mark GT - identifying it as a George Tutill example, one of the most respected and collectable names in British fraternal regalia production.

Of particular note to collectors: the reverse has not been engraved with the owner's details - a relatively uncommon survival, as most examples of this type were personalised upon presentation. This makes it a cleaner and more versatile piece for display or collection. It comes with its original period Toye & Co box (later Toye Kenning & Spencer), itself a collectable name in British regalia.

Condition

Generally very good for period with minor wear. Minor rubbing of gilt at high points. Ribbon with some wear and ageing consistent with age. Box worn and aged externally.
