Description

The head is formed from a central diamond surrounded by six further stones, the arrangement reading as a flower from above - the classic daisy cluster form that was a staple of Edwardian jewellery. The prong setting is open, allowing light to enter the stones from below and giving the head a lightness that belies the quality of the gold.

The diamonds are all old cut - the hand-finished style that preceded the modern brilliant, characterised by a higher crown, smaller table, and a quality of light that moves differently from contemporary cuts. Seven stones in total, all in good order. Inside the band: clear Birmingham hallmarks for 1918 and the maker's mark SB&S Ld. The ring was produced in the final year of the First World War - a detail that places it precisely in time.

Condition

Remarkably good for period with very little wear. Hallmarks clear. All stones good. Professionally cleaned, polished and ready to wear or gift.
