Description

A vintage sterling silver gilt ingot in the form of a postage stamp, produced as part of The Empire Collection by Hallmark Replicas Ltd in 1981.

The front is modelled as a stamp for Aden, with a relief scene of ships and mountainous coastline beneath the inscription "ADEN". Further text below reads "Capture of Aden 1839". The reverse is decorated with an image of Britannia and bears London import hallmarks with the date letter for 1981.

The Empire Collection was originally issued as a set of 25 gold plated sterling silver stamp ingots, each depicting a historic stamp or colonial issue associated with the British Empire. Complete sets were supplied in presentation cases, but individual ingots are also collected separately by those interested in silver, postal history and British Empire commemoratives.

Condition

Very good vintage condition overall.  The ingot displays very light surface wear consistent with age.
