Summary

A mid century Thai silver offering bowl, handmade in a shallow rounded form with repousse worked floral decoration, a scalloped edge and a hammered interior; the silver tests as sterling.

Description

This handmade bowl is formed in a shallow rounded shape with a broad plain rim and a gently scalloped lower edge. Its sides are densely decorated in raised and chased floral and foliate work, with leaves, rosettes and scrolling forms arranged across the surface. 

Worked in repousse, the decoration was raised from the reverse before being refined from the front. The underside is marked กินที่ 1 and carries a second mark that probably reads พะเยา. This refers to Phayao Province in the Lanna cultural region of northern Thailand, an area associated with a longstanding tradition of hand worked silver. 

The bowl dates from the mid 20th century and tests as sterling silver.

Condition

Good antique condition with light wear consistent with age and handmade construction. There are minor surface marks from use, as shown in the photographs.
