Pair Antique Aesthetic Period Porcelain Mantle Vases with Birds and Flowers (Code 2621)
A pair of very pretty late 19th century Aesthetic style vases. They are of elongated hexagon design and were perhaps intended as mantle pieces. Each has a depiction of birds with floral sprigs to the opposing sides. The rims and feet are coloured pink. The decoration is a transfer outline then hand coloured. The rims have a gilt line detail. No makers marks, possibly French in origin.
Minor wear. Each has a firing split to one corner in the same place caused by shrinkage in the kiln and perfectly stable. The vase with the blue and brown bird has a scratch to the reverse going through the glaze.
