Pair of Antique Aesthetic Period Porcelain Mantel Vases - Birds and Flowers - 2621

Summary

A pair of late 19th century porcelain mantel vases of elongated hexagonal form, decorated with birds and flowers, pink rims and feet, and gilt rim lines.

Description

Each vase has an elongated six sided form, with birds among floral sprigs on opposing faces. The decoration was outlined by transfer and then coloured by hand. Pink at the rims and feet frames the painted panels, with a fine gilt line around each rim.

The pair belongs to the Aesthetic period of the late 19th century. There are no maker's marks; French manufacture is possible.

Condition

Minor wear. Each vase has a stable firing split at one corner in the same position, caused during firing. The vase with the blue and brown bird also has a scratch on the reverse that passes through the glaze.
