Summary

A pair of late 19th century Japanese Meiji period cast bronze koro with foo dog lids, relief panels of birds and prunus blossom, and twin tiger head handles with deep chocolate brown patination.

Description

Small in scale and well suited to the collector's cabinet, these koro are nicely cast. The bodies carry relief panels of birds among prunus blossom, the lids surmounted by foo dogs. Twin tiger head handles extend into stylised tongues that form the grip. The foot design is attractive and the deep chocolate brown patination is even and well developed. No maker's marks found.

Condition

Minor wear and the odd small knock. One foo dog is missing an ear. Patination generally very good.
