Description

A pair of antique Japanese Satsuma ware vases. They are not quite miniatures but are certainly mini sized. Each has a cobalt blue glaze with two panels, hand painted with female characters to one side and males and children to the other both set in traditional landscapes. They are marked to the underside with the Shimazu crest and signed Hododa below. They would date to the late Meiji period.

Condition

Both with gilt rubbing particularly to the rims and designs over the cobalt glazed areas. Otherwise very good.
