Summary

A vintage Parker 75 Laque fountain pen in the Malachite green finish, made in France circa 1979. From the first French production run, carrying the red Chinese characters 派克 near the lower cap band. Fitted with a French Méru made 14K gold fine nib.

Description

A Parker 75 Laque fountain pen in the Malachite green finish, made in France around 1979. The deep green lacquer carries darker longitudinal figuring through the body, giving the finish a depth that photographs only partly capture. Trim is gold plated throughout: ribbed cap end, Parker arrow clip and two cap bands.

Near the lower cap band are the red Chinese characters 派克 - the phonetic Chinese rendering of the Parker name. These characters were omitted on later production runs, making their presence a useful dating marker for early French production examples.

The 14K gold nib is French made at the Méru facility in the Oise, marked PARKER, FRANCE and 585 (the European fineness mark for 58.5% gold), together with the PP device. The feed carries the F grade mark for fine. The pen writes a fine line. The nib and feed unit rotates within the section to alter the writing angle, one of the defining functional details of the Parker 75 design. The silver coloured calibration ring provides a visual reference for the selected position. The grip section has two ribbed flats and one smooth flat.

The cap centre band is marked Parker Made in France.

The pen takes standard Parker cartridges or a converter. Supplied without converter or original box.

Condition

Good vintage condition and writing correctly. The 14K nib is in very good order and writes smoothly. There are some light scratches concentrated near the top of the cap in one area, just visible without magnification - these are the only notable cosmetic point. Otherwise only minor signs of previous use consistent with age. The rotating nib assembly moves correctly and holds its selected position firmly.
