Description

A neatly made sterling silver pill or trinket box by Mark Houghton Ltd.

The box has a plain oval body with a gently domed hinged lid. Applied to the centre is a sculpted silver rose, formed in several overlapping layers to give the flower depth and definition.

The underside carries a full Sheffield hallmark for 2002 together with the maker's mark for Mark Houghton Ltd. It also bears the special commemorative hallmark introduced for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II, used alongside the normal statutory assay marks during 2002.

Mark Houghton Ltd operated from Covent Garden and produced a range of silver giftware and small decorative objects, with pieces such as boxes, frames and desk accessories forming an important part of its output.

The compact size makes this suitable for pills, small jewellery or other small personal items.

Condition

Very good condition with only light surface wear consistent with age.

The hinge and lid are working correctly.
