Summary

A Victorian scent bottle in opaque pale blue opaline glass, with a slim square body, an ornate silver cap and its original matching blue glass stopper.

Description

The narrow body has gently faceted corners and a smooth polished surface. Its pale blue glass contrasts with the raised scrolling leaves and flowers of the silver repoussé cap, which has a plain polished band beneath the decorated top.

The cap is unmarked but has been tested and confirmed as sterling silver. Removing it reveals the original internal stopper in matching blue glass.

Dating to the late nineteenth century, this small scent bottle belongs to the personal dressing accessories carried in handbags, dressing cases and travelling sets.

Condition

Very good antique condition overall, with one slight nick to the rim of the bottle. The original internal glass stopper is present.

The silver cap fits correctly, although its grip is not as firm as it would originally have been.
