Description
A pair of sterling silver cufflinks by Celtic Art Industries, hallmarked at Edinburgh in 2002.
Each cufflink has a detailed Scottish thistle head, with the flower and deeply cut leaves worked in relief. The reverse is fitted with a rotating toggle bar, allowing the cufflinks to pass easily through the shirt cuff before turning into position.
The reverse carries the CA sponsor’s mark for Celtic Art Industries together with the Edinburgh sterling silver hallmark and 2002 date letter.
Celtic Art Industries was established in Glasgow in 1945 and became associated with the revival of traditional Scottish silverwork. The firm drew inspiration from earlier Celtic Revival design, including the work of Alexander Ritchie, and later operated from East Kilbride. Its workshops employed a number of silversmiths who subsequently became known in their own right, including Iain MacCormick, Malachy Gormley and John Hart.
The CA sponsor’s mark used here is recorded at the Edinburgh Assay Office on work dating from 2000 to 2006.
Condition
Good vintage condition with light surface wear consistent with use. The relief decoration remains well defined and both rotating toggle fittings work correctly.
