Vintage Mexican Sterling Silver Adjustable Belt Buckle Bangle - 1980s - C3138

Summary

A vintage Mexican sterling silver bangle formed as a narrow belt, with a working hinged buckle, keeper loop and five adjustment holes. Hand made in solid silver, it adjusts to fit wrists approximately 16cm to 18cm.

Description

The belt design extends beyond the appearance of this bangle. Its buckle is fully functional: it hinges upward to release the band, which slides through the keeper loop in the same manner as a leather belt. Folding the buckle down locates the spigot in one of five adjustment holes.

The narrow band measures 4.8mm across. The buckle, keeper and adjustment system are all formed in silver, with neat construction and a carefully executed mechanism.

Inside the band it is stamped MEXICO 925. A further struck mark beside this appears most likely to read Taxco, although it is not clear enough to attribute with certainty. The style and construction are consistent with Mexican silver work of the 1980s.

Condition

Good vintage condition with light period surface wear. The buckle hinge, keeper and adjustment mechanism are all working correctly.
