Summary

An Art Deco cream glazed vase designed by Keith Murray for Wedgwood during the 1930s. The tall fluted body has a gently flared rim and stands on a broad circular foot.

Description

A vintage Art Deco vase designed by Keith Murray for Wedgwood, dating to the 1930s. The tall cream glazed body is formed with evenly spaced vertical flutes, widening gradually towards the gently flared and scalloped rim. A broad circular foot matches the upright architectural form.

Keith Murray originally trained as an architect, and his ceramic designs are characterised by clean profiles, restrained decoration and an emphasis on proportion. His work for Wedgwood brought a modern architectural character to the company's decorative wares during the 1930s.

The interior is glazed, allowing the vase to be used with water and fresh flowers. The underside has the blue Keith Murray facsimile signature above the WEDGWOOD and MADE IN ENGLAND factory marks, together with impressed production marks.

Condition

Very good vintage condition. There is a light blue smudge beneath the glaze on one flute, occurring during production rather than through later wear. No chips or cracks noted.
